There is no stadium seat number replica plan or diagram that shows the actual seat number in relation to the stairs – you might have picked a seat that was near a staircase but guess what? The stadium agents, didn’t seam to think this is something many of us would like to know when choosing where to sit! What is shown as a stairway is bogus! Eissh…! The colour code areas and the seat numbers are accurate
It was pointed out to me that the seats have been audited – none have been stolen so far!
It’s really puzzling why the CTN Stadium management, SailstadFRANCE – do not have a Website/blog with a seating plan or any other info on the CTN Stadium – zoot allors!

.
Click on the seat colour block diagram to see it very large
[I hope I got the mountain in the correct place – just follow the colour on your ticket eventually you will get there as the building is roundish! Signage is excellent – nice & large]

The colour coded blocks and numbers are the area where your seat will be found
Follow the lollipop colour codes to get to your seat area entrance
Lucky so and so that you have a ticket! [You must be a rocket scientist to have been able to follow the convoluted protocol to get a ticket!]
Computicket’s seating numbers are not a replica of the stadium layout!
THINGS YOU CAN NOT TAKE INTO THE STADIUM – displayed at stadium entrance

NB – Please take earplugs! The vuvus are deafening – cotton wool will do to dampen the eardrum being battered literally to death.
AND if yr not a local going to the match – take something warm to put on, in case the wind changes direction and it becomes arctic.

It describes what it really took to get the enormously controversial, Cape Town Stadium built, now poised for the 2010 World Cup, that begins in a few weeks time

“BUILDING THE CAPE TOWN STADIUM CAME WITH SHOVELS OF GOOD INTENTIONS , A BIG TICKING CLOCK , BACK-ROOM LOBBYING , PUBLIC ARM WRESTLING , HEAVY NEGOTIATION
& COMPROMISE”

Cover Photograph by Soren W ©

“The cool simplicity of the stadium’s form belies the fiery trail

it followed into existence. This book describes the process of

its formation by those who have been intimately involved

and brings together the often contradictory views.

The stadium belongs to the people of Cape Town – its making

is legendary, its impact still to be felt. It is too early to talk

about the legacy it will leave behind: it has to be lived in and

with and alongside.”

Architect and Editor Bettina Andrag had the daunting task of pulling the whole thing together- no mean feet given the number of people involved putting together the amazing diagrams, drawings sketches and photographs. This book will be the quintessential document on all there is to know about the new iconic building that now appears on the Cape Town City sky line – Your going to have to buy a copy so that you can speak as an insider at dinner parties and the office kitchen [pause area]

I could tell my brain struggled to take in what it was seeing – Something that is larger than the Cape Town Stadium, floating in the harbour & that turned round & sailed off into the late dusk – a spiritual experience! Jaw dropping, eyebrow lifting stuff! Made the heart sing with delight but it was also awful to see it leave [6pm departure, Friday 26th March 2010]
I had no idea there was a leviathan in town & only saw it by chance.

The Queen Mary II (QMII), the 2nd largest ocean liner – it is truly big
(Thank goodness for the pier or I wouldn’t have been able to get the whole ship in frame!)
I found my self wondering if it would fit into the stadium?
I guessed it wouldn’t & I was correct

Here are the stats:

QM2
Height: 72.0 m (236.2 ft) keel to funnel
Length: 345 m (1,019.4ft)
Width: 40.8432m (134 feet) (45.0 m – extreme (bridge wings)

Stadium
Height:50m
Length:290m
Width: 265m

Courtesy: Wikipedia – Click on diagram to go to excellent QMII page

“A new 92,000-ton liner, to be named ˜Queen Elizabeth”™ has been ordered and is scheduled to enter service in the autumn of 2010 [Nothern hemosphere]. We have signed an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the contruction of the new 2092-passenger ocean liner, which will be built at their Monfalcone yard at an all-in cost of approximately $993 million.”

What’s what from bottom centre to the top of the stadium
[In case you’re interested!]

Pitch access tunnel
Players tunnel
Basement level (street level)
Players Changing rooms + safes/ shower room for 10/ massage & injury rooms/ practise room [5m x 10m] with netted ceiling & police station & jail/prison

Press/media area
The legacy
1st level – above the players tunnel – Black worktops and swivel seats – for use after the world cup!
Through the central double door & sharp left takes you into the enormous press room, kitted out with floor plugs every 1.5m

The exterior stairs go up to the podium level [the stadium rests on it [the podium] but actually goes down 2 flights to the pitch internally]

2nd level
– Podium level
– The stadium inner sanctum, entry points, for the ‘ordinary’ people. 🙂
It’s a huge continuous walk way under the second tier seats, with food and drink [during a match] & access to upper and lower level seating

CLICK on image to see it larger

This is what it looks like just as you enter into the stadium – from the dark into the brilliant light – the underside of the seats above & the view across to the press area, where a group of Italian media people are being shown around

3rd floor level
– Veranda & plush seats

The World Cup Media Platform
The block of black seats are uncovered, for the pleasure of the media, at the breakfast press conference given by Fifa. The others on either side are covered in plastic – ± 1,600

Have just been told that this area is the media area for the duration of the world cup. Seems obvious now that I’ve been told! The lower press area, is obviously too small to accommodate all the worlds journalists for the matches.

Fifa move in to set up in May.

Lay the communication cables and take over – literally. They have their own security, called marshals 1,500 of them.

Fifa has the stadium until the end of October – as it will take them that long to put it back to the state they found it in!

Cricky! What are they going to be doing to it?

4th level
Rooms that go all the way around the stadium with 2? rows of super comfy seats – the penthouse level?

5th level
The temporary seating for the duration of the world cup – to meet Fifa requirements

The opposite side of the stadium is completed but this side the workers are busy fitting them.

CLICK on image to see it larger

There are photos else where on this site that show various stages of the temporary seating – just go to home (Left top of page ) then scroll down to see all posts, till you come across them or, do a search – in the search window, on the left hand side at the bottom of the page

Type in ‘temporary seating’ & all posts with that tag will show up [or ought too!]

If you want precise details of the tier names & floors etc., you can phone the visitors centre!
Or go there for a visit!
